The Ashba Leave-In Conditioner is a lightweight, hydrating formula built for curly, wavy, frizzy, and dry hair that needs continuous moisture in Indian humidity, hard water, and seasonal extremes. It's been one of Ashba's two original products since the brand launched in January 2019 — formulated and personally tested by founder Asha Barrak across hundreds of wash days before launch.

What it does
  • Powered by clean active ingredients — baobab oil delivers lightweight moisture and elasticity, mongongo oil strengthens and smooths the hair shaft to reduce frizz while helping curls hold their pattern, hydrolyzed quinoa binds moisture into the hair and protects colour, and rosemary extract is a scalp antioxidant
  • Hydrates strands deeply with a silicone-free formula designed for Indian monsoon humidity
  • Defines curl pattern when applied to soaking wet hair
  • Controls frizz through cuticle smoothing and moisture lock
  • Detangles with enough slip to finger-comb without breakage
  • Lightweight enough for fine hair without the silicone-coated weighed-down feel
  • Designed to layer cleanly under Ashba Curl Defining Gel, Ashba Curl Styling Serum, Ashba Curl Volumizing Foam and Ashba Flaxseed Curling Custard
How to use

1. Wash and condition your hair with sulphate-free Ashba Hydrating Shampoo and Ashba Nourishing Conditioner. Don't towel-dry.
2. Section soaking wet hair into 4–6 parts. Hair should be dripping water — damp is not wet enough.
3. Apply from pea size to generous amount of Leave-In Conditioner to each section depending on the hair thickness - thin to thick curls.
4. Rake through with fingers from roots to ends or to get the best definition.
5. Layer your styler (Ashba Curl Defining Gel or Curl Styling Serum or Ashba Volumizing Foam or Curling custard) over the leave-in conditioner.
6. To get the best definition and minimize frizz, use Ashba Curl Artist Curl Styling Brush in a very small section to define curls.
7. Air dry or diffuse on low heat without disturbing curls.
8. Once fully dry, scrunch gently to break the gel cast and reveal soft, defined curls.

Tips for specific hair types

  • Fine wavy or curly hair: Use a small amount. Layer Curl Styling Serum or Curl Volumizing Foam on top.
  • Thick wavy or curly hair (any pattern, thick density): Use generously. Layer Curl Defining Gel or Flaxseed Curling Custard for hold and humidity resistance.
  • Wavy hair (2A–2C): Apply only to mid-lengths and ends to preserve root volume.
  • Hard water areas (Bangalore, Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad): Pair with monthly use of the Ashba Clarifying Shampoo to remove mineral buildup.
  • Monsoon season: Anti-humidity formula means it won't draw extra humidity into your hair.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What is a leave-in conditioner and why do curly and wavy hair need one?

A leave in conditioner is a moisture step applied after you rinse out your regular conditioner — it stays in the hair through styling and drying, providing continuous hydration. Curly and wavy hair need leave-ins because the natural oils from your scalp can't travel down the spiraled shape of the hair shaft easily, leaving curls drier than straight hair by default. The Ashba Leave-In is a lightweight leave in conditioner for curly hair, wavy hair, and dry hair — built for Indian textures.

    Show all FAQs

What is the difference between a curl cream, a leave-in conditioner, and an in-shower conditioner?

A leave-in conditioner is primarily a moisture step — it hydrates the hair and prepares it for styling. A curl cream (also called curly hair cream) is primarily a styling step — it provides definition and light hold. Most curlies use both: leave-in or curl cream first on soaking wet hair, then the curl defining gel on top. Ashba doesn't make a separate curl cream because the Leave-In doubles as a lightweight leave in cream for curly hair, and Curl Moisture Milk works as a richer curl cream for curly hair or curl cream for wavy hair that needs more weight. An in-shower conditioner is the rinse-out conditioner you use after shampoo — it nourishes and adds slip for detangling.

Is Ashba's leave-in safe for fine, dry, wavy, or color-treated hair?

Yes to all. As a leave in conditioner for curly hair, wavy hair, and dry hair, the Ashba Leave-In works across all texture types — lightweight enough for fine curls (hydrolyzed quinoa is a plant protein, not an oil, so no greasy weight), deeply hydrating as a leave in conditioner for dry hair that's lost moisture from heat, hard water, or sulphate shampoos, and gentle enough for color-treated, keratin-treated, and chemically straightened hair. As a leave in conditioner for wavy hair, the lightweight formula preserves wave pattern without weighing hair down. For chemically treated or relaxed hair, pair with the Ashba Deep Treatment Hair Masque weekly for repair.

How to use leave in conditioner for curly hair?

Apply to soaking wet hair, not damp or dry. Section hair into 2–4 parts. Rake a coin-sized amount through each section with your fingers, then smooth and scrunch upward to encourage curl formation. For fine to medium hair, use less and focus on the ends; for coarse or thick hair, apply generously root to tip. Don't rinse — follow with your styler (Curl Defining Gel, Styling Serum, or Flaxseed Curling Custard).

Will Ashba Leave-In work in Indian monsoon humidity?

Yes. The formula has humidity resistance ingredients which means it won't draw excess humidity from the air into your hair shaft. For maximum monsoon performance, layer Ashba Curl Defining Gel over the leave-in for humidity-resistant hold.

Can I use Ashba Leave-In daily, or only on wash days?

Most curlies apply the full leave-in on wash days only (2–3 times per week). For between-wash refresh, dilute a small amount with water in a spray bottle, mist your hair, and scrunch lightly to revive curls. This Day-2 and Day-3 refresh technique extends wash day results without product buildup.

What is the difference between leave-in conditioner and hair serum?

Leave-in conditioner is water-based and hydrating — it adds moisture deep into the hair shaft. Hair serum is typically oil-based and surface-coating — it adds shine and smooths frizz on the cuticle but doesn't hydrate. Also, most hair serums are heavy silicone based and coats hair which creates buildup over time. The buildup prevents hair to curl properly and weighs hair down. Curly hair needs both moisture (leave-in) and definition control. The Ashba Leave-In handles the moisture; the Ashba Curl Styling Serum or Curl Defining Gel handles the styling layer.

Will the leave-in make my hair sticky, crunchy, or greasy?

No. The Ashba Leave-In is non-sticky, non-crunchy, and absorbs into the hair shaft. The hydrolyzed quinoa and lightweight baobab oil mean fine hair doesn't get greasy and curls don't feel coated. If your hair feels sticky after use, you're likely applying too much — start with half a coin-sized amount and build.

Can men use this leave in conditioner for curly hair?

Yes. Ashba Leave-In works as a leave in conditioner for men with curly, wavy, or coily hair — gender-neutral and formulated for curl pattern and density, not gender. For shorter male hair, use approximately half the amount used for shoulder-length hair. Same moisture and definition benefits regardless of hair length.

Does Ashba Leave-In Conditioner have a fragrance?

Yes — a light, IFRA-certified fragrance that dissipates after styling. Not heavily perfumed. For customers with extreme fragrance sensitivities, we recommend a patch test or contacting us before purchase. The fragrance uses cosmetic-safe approved ingredients, not essential oils.

How long does one bottle of Ashba Leave-In last?

Depending on hair length and wash frequency, one bottle typically lasts 2–4 months for someone with shoulder-length hair washing 2–3 times a week. Fine hair users get longer because they use less per wash. Long, thick, or coarse hair may need a refill sooner.

Is Ashba Leave-In Curly Girl Method approved?

Yes — fully CGM-friendly. Free from sulphates, silicones, drying alcohols, mineral oils, parabens, waxes, and glycerin. EWG green-rated, PETA-certified vegan and cruelty-free, IFRA-certified fragrance. Asha Barrak, founder of Ashba, has followed and taught the Curly Girl Method to Indian curlies since 2014.
