India's First Curly Hair Brand, Built by Asha Barrak

Ashba is India's first curly hair brand, launched in 2019 by Asha Barrak — the founder of the Indian Curl Pride community and the curly hair educator who taught India to embrace its natural texture. After years of writing the Right Ringlets blog and running India's largest curly hair Facebook group, Asha built Ashba to give Indian curlies what no Indian brand offered at the time: clean, CG-friendly, sulphate-free natural curly hair products formulated for Indian humidity, hard water, and texture.

From the OG Curl Defining Gel and Leave-In Conditioner that launched the brand, Ashba now makes a complete range of curly hair products for women and men — shampoos, conditioners, leave-ins, stylers, deep treatments, and scalp care — all clean, vegan, cruelty-free, and built for Indian curls.

Best Curly Hair Products in India: A Complete Guide

The complete guide to the best curly hair products in India — every category, what each step does, and how to build your kit.

How to Choose the Right Curly Hair Products

The wrong products are the reason most Indian curlies spent years thinking they had "frizzy hair" instead of curly hair. Here's how Asha recommends choosing what your curls actually need:

Know your curl pattern and density. 2A waves, 3B curls, and 4C coils need different products. So do fine, medium, and coarse strands. The same gel that defines coarse curls flattens fine ones.
Read the ingredient list. Real curly girl approved products in India are sulphate-free, silicone-free, and free of drying alcohols, mineral oils, and parabens. Silicones in particular look like they smooth Indian curly hair but build up over time and block moisture.
Match the product to the job. Cleanse with a hydrating shampoo, clarify periodically for buildup, condition daily, treat weekly, leave-in for moisture, then style for hold. Each step has a purpose — skipping or doubling up causes most curl problems.
Listen to your hair. If curls feel coated, clarify. If they feel dry, add moisture. If they feel limp, switch to lighter products. Indian water, weather, and humidity change what your hair needs across the year.

Why Indian Curlies Choose Ashba

Ashba is the curly hair brand built by an Indian curly herself, for Indian conditions. As hair products for curly hair specifically formulated for the Indian climate, every Ashba product is clean, vegan, and PETA-certified cruelty-free, with EWG green-rated ingredients and ECOCERT-certified components. We're free from sulphates, silicones, parabens, mineral oils, drying alcohols, formaldehyde, phthalates, and over 1,000 other harsh ingredients that traditional curly hair brands in India use. Bottles are 100% recyclable, cleansers are biodegradable, and our conditioning base is COSMOS-approved. This is what clean curly hair care should look like in India.
