Asha Barrak, Founder of Ashba Botanics

If you had met me in my early twenties, you would probably never have guessed that I would one day start a curly hair care brand.

Like many people with naturally curly and wavy hair, I spent most of my life trying to manage my hair rather than understand it.

I grew up in Haryana and later studied engineering in Delhi. Before Ashba, I worked in the IT industry. Hair care was never part of the plan.

At that time, I did not know that curly hair needed a different routine. Like most of us, I followed what everyone around me followed. Shampoo, conditioner and then combing hair when dry.

The result was always the same.

Frizz.

A ponytail.

And the feeling that my hair was something I needed to fix.

For years, I believed that straight hair was the standard everyone should aspire to because that was what we saw around us. In advertisements, movies, magazines and salons, straight hair was always presented as beautiful, healthy and professional.

Curly hair was often treated as a problem.

It took me years to realize that my hair was not the problem.

The routine was.

Discovering Curly Hair Care

In my mid-twenties, I started researching curly hair care online.

For the first time, I came across people who were wearing their natural texture proudly. I learned that curly hair behaves differently from straight hair. I learned about styling techniques, moisture balance, ingredients and curl-friendly routines.

Most importantly, I learned that curly hair does not need to be controlled.

It needs to be understood.

As I started following a proper routine, everything changed.

My hair changed.

But more importantly, my confidence changed.

For the first time in my life, I felt comfortable wearing my hair naturally.

People started asking questions.

"Are those your natural curls?"

"How do you get your hair like that?"

"Can my hair look like that too?"

The same questions kept coming up again and again.

That was the beginning of everything.

Right Ringlets

In 2014, I started writing about curly hair care.

At that time, there was very little information available for people with curly and wavy hair in India.

Most advice was written for completely different hair types, climates and lifestyles.

So I started sharing my own experiences.

The blog became known as Right Ringlets and grew into one of India's earliest dedicated resources for curly hair care.

I wrote about routines, styling techniques, ingredients, common mistakes and everything I was learning along the way.

What started as personal documentation slowly became a resource that helped thousands of people begin their own curl journeys.

Building Indian Curl Pride

As more people discovered curly hair care, it became clear that information alone was not enough.

People needed community.

They needed a place where they could share experiences, ask questions and learn from each other without judgement.

In 2015, I started Indian Curl Pride.

What began as a small Facebook group gradually grew into one of India's largest communities for people with curly and wavy hair.

Members shared transformations, routines, product experiences, styling techniques and encouragement.

For many people, it was the first time they realized they were not alone in their struggles with textured hair.

The goal was never to create dependence.

The goal was always to help people become confident and independent in caring for their own hair.

Why Ashba Was Created

As the community grew, one question appeared every day.

"What products should we use?"

At the time, there were very few products designed specifically for curly and wavy hair in India.

Most products were created with straight hair in mind.

Curly hair has different needs.

It generally requires more moisture, more frizz control and ingredients that support natural texture rather than suppress it.

The more I researched ingredients, the more fascinated I became by formulation.

What started as curiosity became a passion.

I spent years learning about ingredients, testing formulations and understanding how products perform on different hair types.

Ashba was born from that process.

The goal was simple.

Create products that genuinely work for curly and wavy hair.

Not products designed around marketing trends.

Not products built around hype.

Products built around performance.

A Different Approach To Product Development

Every Ashba product starts with a simple question.

Does it solve a real problem?

Product development is a long process.

Ingredients are researched carefully.

Formulations are tested repeatedly.

Performance is evaluated across different hair types, climates and routines.

I have always believed that consumers deserve products that are effective, safe and thoughtfully formulated.

That philosophy continues to guide every product we create.

Beyond Hair Care

Ashba was never only about products.

From the beginning, it has been about helping people feel comfortable in their own skin and confident in their natural hair.

Hair has a profound impact on how we see ourselves.

I know that because I have lived it.

I know what it feels like to spend years wishing your hair were different.

And I know how powerful it can be when that relationship changes.

That transformation is what continues to inspire everything we do.

Today

Today, Ashba serves customers across India and beyond.

What started as a personal journey has grown into a community, an educational platform and a brand built around curly and wavy hair.

The mission remains the same.

Help people understand their hair.

Help them embrace their natural texture.

And create products that genuinely support that journey.
