Wash Day Tips For Beginners - Curly Hair Edition

Wash day can be a tough task for people starting their curly hair journey. Hence, here we are simplifying it, explaining it so that your curls turn out to be beautiful and stare-worthy!

Here are some simple & effective tips for wash-day for our lovely curly heads.

Shampooing

Switch to a sulfate & silicone-free shampoo for curls. Make sure you use your fingertips to massage your scalp while cleansing. Do not use your nails, be gentle. Do not leave the shampoo on your hair for more than required. Rinse with lukewarm water. You can use shampoo to cleanse your scalp and hair once or twice a week.

Conditioning and Detangling

Conditioning your hair is an essential step in a wash-day routine. Conditioners help to moisturize as well as hydrate your hair. They also make your hair manageable and easy to style. While applying avoid your roots, and focus on the lengths and tips of your hair. You can also run a wide-toothed comb once you have applied the conditioner for the product to get evenly distributed. This will also help you to detangle better and form better curls. Use the conditioner to soften the knots and then smoothen the hair out. Use your fingers to detangle your hair in the shower, while the conditioner is still in your hair.

Styling

It is always advisable to use water while you are styling. A leave-in conditioner and gel would work best when a good amount of water is added while using these products. If you have very fine hair you can choose to style in damp to wet hair as well. Use a microfiber towel or your old cotton t-shirt if you wish to squeeze out extra water from your hair before styling. If you have coarse thick hair damp styling might not give you the desired results. The more water the better – it will help you form better clumps, resulting in more defined curls with less frizz.

Drying

Finally, drying your curls. Using heat to dry your curls might make them brittle, frizzy, and prone to damage in the long run. It is always advisable to air-dry your curls. If you feel it is time-consuming and you are in a hurry you can use a diffuser to dry your hair.

In seasons like summer, the hot air will work its way to dry your hair for good. When it comes to winter and rain, natural drying might take time but it's better to air dry. A good tip to follow while drying is not to touch your hair. Touching your hair constantly while drying can disturb the curl pattern, and also cause frizz. Trust us, you don't want that!
